Police have identified the man shot to death in his Taylorsville apartment Saturday afternoon.

Anthony Fili, 35, was shot in the chest and died in his Summerwood apartment at 2601 W. Summer Ridge Drive (5675 South) just after 4 p.m.

Witnesses told police they saw Rodney Liti, 32, physically fight with Fili, and then shoot him. After Fili fell to the ground, Liti took some items from the victim's pockets and fled the scene, according to arresting documents.

It appears the use or distribution of narcotics was a motivating factor in the murder, said Sgt. Tracy Wyant of the Taylorsville Police Department.

Officers arrested Liti after a chase, and found two handguns near the scene of the arrest. Liti admitted he had discarded the guns, said Wyant. Police booked Liti into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, restricted person in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice, evidence tampering and resisting arrest.

Authorities also confiscated a Dodge pickup they believed the suspect used. They found it at 4055 S. 2030 West.

Police continue to search for three other persons of interest in the case. They are searching for a 6-foot-tall man with a heavy build, black hair and brown eyes between the ages of 25 and 35. They are also searching for two women, one who is 5 foot 8 inches with blonde hair and a thin build between 25 and 35 years old and the other who is 5 feet tall with black hair and a thin build in the same age range.

"We are confident [Liti] had criminal involvement in this homicide, but we'd really like to speak with these other individuals," Wyant said.

Police ask anyone with information on these people or anything relevant to the slaying to call Detective Jerold Jacobsen at 801-743-7000.
