Federal agents, police and a bomb squad descended Saturday on the Midvale home of a convicted sex offender now suspected of robbing three West Jordan banks and threatening to blow up one of them.
After a robbery at Cyprus Credit Union on Saturday morning, police found evidence connecting the crime to a 52-year-old Midvale man, West Jordan police Detective Dan Roberts said. At the home, investigators found multiple devices similar to one used in a Sept. 7 robbery, in which a man claimed to have a bomb and threatened to blow up a University Credit Union branch near 8800 South and Redwood Road, Roberts said.
Bomb technicians "disposed of the devices," Roberts said, but he would not confirm whether the devices were explosive.
Evidence at the home also linked the man to an Oct. 1 robbery at a Wells Fargo Bank branch near 2600 West and 9000 South, Roberts said.
No bomblike devices were used in Saturday's robbery at Cyprus Credit Union, 1381 W. 9000 South, Roberts said. A man walked into the bank about 9:30 a.m., showed a teller a note demanding money, opened his jacket and flashed a gun, Roberts said.
The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, Roberts said.
