Salt Lake City police on Friday released the description of a suspect in the assault on a 19-year-old gay man in Salt Lake City last month.

Police said they are looking for "a single suspect" in connection with the attack on Dane Hall, who was assaulted after leaving a downtown bar in the early hours of Aug. 27.

The man is described as a white male with a medium build in his mid-20s, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short, light-color hair. The man was last seen getting into a four-door gray or silver compact hatchback, police said. The vehicle may have a white vinyl sticker, 10 to 12 inches in size, in the rear window.

Police continue to investigate the assault that left Hall with a broken jaw and cheekbone. Hall has said a group of men he did not know shouted gay slurs at him as he walked home from Club Sound, at 579 W. 200 South, and then proceeded to punch him several times. They eventually placed the side of his face on the sidewalk and kicked the back of his head in a move known as "curb-checking," according to Hall.

Police Chief Chris Burbank said last week part of the investigation includes looking at whether the attack may have been motivated by drugs, not Hall's sexual orientation. Hall has a drug possession arrest, but has said it has nothing to do with his August assault and that he is not a drug dealer.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect to call 801-799-3000. People also may text in the information by sending the keyword "TIPSLCPD" plus the information to 274637 (CRIMES).
