A semitrailer driver was killed Wednesday when his truck rear-ended another semitruck on Interstate 15 near Brigham City, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Traffic was at a standstill, including three semitrucks in the right-hand travel lane, about 1:55 p.m. when an approaching semi, driven by Derrel Ray Leach, of Hyrum, "failed to slow down in time" and hit the back of a truck, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Leach, 64, died on impact.

The crash caused the other semitrucks to push forward into one another, but none of the other drivers was injured, UHP said. At the time, northbound I-15 traffic was already being diverted because of a previous crash, UHP said.
