Hogle Zoo's female snow leopard successfully underwent surgery Friday to have stones removed from her kidney and ureter.

"Our snow leopard did well and the stones are gone!" the zoo said in a Twitter post Friday afternoon.

Zoo officials said the endangered animal's surgery was set for Friday morning at Advanced Veterinary Care in Salt Lake City.

They said the leopard needed the procedure to prevent the stones from damaging her kidney.

Because this procedure is new to veterinary medicine but routine with humans, the zoo said it was teaming with Blake Hamilton, of the University of Utah's Department of Urology, to perform the procedure.
