Somewhere in Provo are two men with a penchant for impersonating cops. Provo police hope soon — very soon — to make their acquaintance.

Provo police Sgt. Mathew Siufanua on Tuesday asked for the public's assistance in bringing the duo to justice.

About 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman at the King Henry Apartments, 450 N. 1130 East, told officers responding to a 911 call that the two men had pulled up next to her and a female friend in a silver car. The two claimed to be Provo police officers looking into purported rapes at her apartment complex.

When the women told the men they were all right, the bogus cops ordered them to go inside, claiming the apartments were under a 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. curfew. The women called police.

The impostors were described as white and in their mid-20s. One of the men wore an Los Angeles Angels baseball cap and the other an Arizona Diamondbacks hat.

The men's vehicle was a late-model Subaru with California license plate number 6PWE810. But Provo police say that tag number does not come up as valid.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects is asked to contact Provo police at 801-852-6231.
