Salt Lake City police and firefighters are sponsoring Night Out Against Crime events tonight at several locations.

The events underscore the importance of citizens helping public safety services protect their communities by quickly reporting suspicious activity. This year, police and firefighters will promote a new service that allow the public to anonymously share video, picture or text tips with authorities. (See the accompanying information box for further details).

Night Out Against Crime activities will range from parades to block parties and cookouts between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the following locations:

— Westpointe, 1100 N. 2000 West.

— Glendale, 1313 W. California Ave.

— Federal Heights/Greater Avenues, northeast corner of 42 S. University Street.

— East Liberty, 1185 S. Windsor and 1033 S. Lake Street.
