Magna • A Kennecott worker suffered first- and second-degree burns Monday when an overheated water container exploded, the Unified Fire Authority reported.

A work crew had unloaded a water container from a barge but could not get the lid off, reported UFA spokesman Ben Sharer. The crew used a grinder to cut the bolts, which heated the container and caused a steam explosion, Sharer said.

The injured man, who suffered burns to his face and arms, was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. near U-202 and 11500 West.
