Morgan City Justice Court will close its doors at the end of August after years of operating in the red.
The court has lost between $40,000 and $50,000 each of the past five years, Morgan City Councilwoman Shelly Betz said. With Judge Richard T. London planning to retire, city officials said they began looking at closing the courthouse at 90 W. Young St. The Utah Judicial Council unanimously approved the court's dissolution Monday.
Beginning Sept. 1, the Morgan County Justice Court will take most over the city's cases. Morgan Mayor Jim Egbert said the city will still prosecute some of its own cases.
