Free health fairs are scheduled for Salt Lake City and Ogden this week.

The Junior League of Salt Lake City has scheduled its annual CARE Fair for Friday and Saturday at the Horizonte Instruction & Training Center, 1234 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City.

More than 250 medical volunteers and more than 50 community agencies will combine to help individuals and families who need routine medical tests, screenings and community assistance information.

Services will include childhood immunizations and physicals, women's cancer screenings, HIV testing, diabetes testing, eye, ear and dental exams. Participants will be offered information about the 211 help line and referrals, Children's Service Society of Utah, Medicaid eligibility services, legal and housing counseling, food program and employment service counseling.

Community agencies represented at the event will include the University of Utah's medical school, Lions Club, Shriners Hospital, Moran Eye Center and Planned Parenthood.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit http://www.jlslc.org or call the CARE Fair hotline at 801-355-1868.

On Saturday in Ogden, the Health Mart Healthy Living Tour will offer free health screenings aboard a mobile unit with area pharmacists Hal Roe, Kurt Price and Christine Jacobsen. The screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and Hemoglobin A1c tests.

The tour will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the 25th Street Amphitheater, in conjunction with the Historic 25th Street Farmer's and Art Market. Another 15 to 20 local health vendors will offer other health-related services.

Co-sponsored by Bayer Diabetes Care and Novo Nordisk, the tour aims to raise awareness of the nation's diabetes epidemic.
