South Jordan police are awaiting results of a toxicology test in connection with last month's murder-suicide, but have otherwise closed the case.
On June 21, Douglas Irwin shot and killed his 46-year-old wife, Jana Lynn Irwin, at South Jordan City Park. Douglas Irwin, 51, then shot himself in the head. He died two days later.
Jana Irwin filed for divorce the morning of the shooting. South Jordan police Lt. Rob Hansen said the martial problems appear to be the motive behind the shooting.
"The best we can figure is it obviously was a relationship issue and obviously it escalated," Hansen said.
Hansen said investigators want to know if Douglas Irwin was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the shooting. Those results may not be known for a few more weeks.
