Target shooters caused two wildfires that burned about 35 acres near Saratoga Springs.
The first fire broke out about 1 p.m. on State Road 68 and burned about 30 acres, said Saratoga Springs Fire Capt. Steve Chaffin. Crews spent about two hours fighting the fire as it approached federal land, propelled by winds of 7 mph, Chaffin said.
"Right after that we had another just up the road," he said. About three miles to the north, near Saratoga Shores, another fire was sparked by gunfire and grew to 5 acres before it was contained.
The fields west of Utah Lake are extremely popular for gun enthusiasts, Chaffin said.
"They're target shooting in that area ever day. Every type of gun that is made they go down and target shoot," Chaffin said.
