An 11-year-old girl died after being hit by a minivan at an intersection in Taylorsville on Saturday afternoon.

The girl was flown to a hospital by Life Flight helicopter but died shortly after the accident.

Taylorsville police Sgt. Tracy Wyant said the accident occurred near 3400 West on 5400 South just before 12:30 p.m.

Wyant said two girls were on the west side of the intersection headed south.

"The light had just switched for eastbound traffic and it appears as though they got across too late," Wyant said.

The driver of the minivan had a green light, according to Wyant, and likely will not be criminally charged.

The name of the girl was not released pending notification of family.
