A motorist in Neola struck and killed a 4-year-old boy on a bicycle Wednesday after he stopped on the side of the road to chat with the boy's mother.
The crash that killed Cole Mair occurred about 3 p.m. at 9180 N. 2160 West, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The boy's mother was walking down the road when the 72-year-old man in a Dodge 3500 Heavy Duty pickup stopped to "visit with her," the UHP reported. He parked in the roadway and talked to the boy's mother through his window.
When the man started to drive away he didn't see the boy ride his bike in front of the truck and ran over him. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case was forwarded to the county attorney's office but it appears to be a tragic accident, Cpl. Rex Olsen said.
