A Vernal man was sentenced Tuesday to three years to life in prison for raping a 16-year-old foster child, whom officials say was in the care of the man's mother.

On the night of Jan. 1, George B. Stone, 46, took the teen to a Vernal home, where he made her vodka and orange juice drinks until she passed out in a hot tub, according to court documents. Then Stone raped the girl multiple times and took nude photographs of her, the report states.

On Tuesday, 8th District Judge Clark McClellan sentenced Stone to three years to life in prison on a count of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony. Stone was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison for one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Stone's mother, 66-year-old Nola K. Fortine, is accused of finding her son in bed with the teen girl on the morning of Jan. 2, and failing to report the incident.

Fortine pleaded guilty earlier this month to a class B misdemeanor charge of failure to report child abuse. A third-degree felony count of witness tampering was dismissed at that time.

Fortine is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday.
