Salt Lake City police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a female bicyclist last week.

Brynn Barton, a 24-year-old maternity nurse at University Hospital, died after being hit by a dark-colored 1998-2001 four-door model Volkswagen Passat sedan the night of June 7 near 800 South and 700 East.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call 801-799-3000. Callers may remain anonymous.

Barton, who was fatally injured despite wearing a helmet, was struck as she and friends rode southbound on 700 East about 10 p.m.

The outgoing, popular nurse had begun working at the U.'s maternity unit last August. Prior to that, she has served as an operating room nursing assistant.
