Celebrate friendship • The Chinese Heritage Gate, a symbol of friendship between the city and Nantou, Taiwan, will be unveiled at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South, and a celebration will follow until 10 p.m. Two exhibits showcasing art from Taiwan will open that day at the center.

Find a new best friend • Learn about animal adoption opportunities at Pet Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Valley City-Taylorsville Animal Shelter, 4522 W. 3500 South. The event will include a "best dressed" pet competition, free pet tags for the first 100 guests, free adoption vouchers and activities for kids. Furry friends are welcome to accompany their people.
