Cedar City • The Southern Utah men's basketball team will host Montana State-Billings in its home opener Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Thunderbirds bring a 2-1 record into the game after beating UC Davis and Bryant University and losing to San Diego State in the Basketball Traveler's Classic. This is the first time SUU has been 2-1 since the 2006-07 season when the team started 3-1.

MSU-Billings lost 81-70 at Dixie State on Tuesday after opening the season with a pair of home victories. The Yellowjackets hold a 2-1 edge in the series with the Thunderbirds.

After the home game, SUU travels to Logan for a 7 p.m. game against in-state rival Utah State. The Thunderbirds have never beaten the Aggies in five tries.

Ray Jones, Jr., posted career rebounding and assist highs last weekend for SUU. The senior point guard pulled down 10 rebounds against UC Davis and dished out 10 assists against Bryant. Damon Heuir poured in a career-best 33 points against Bryant. He hit his first seven shots and finished 13-of-16 from 3-point range. Matt Massey had a career-high seven assists against Bryant.
