Ski season unofficially starts Saturday. Warren Miller will be back to town.

"No Turning Back," the 65th ski movie made by the legendary Miller and his successors, will kick off its national tour with two showings Saturday night at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City.

Six more showings will take place in the next 10 days in Ogden, Park City and Orem before Warren Miller Entertainment takes the film on its 36-state tour, stoking excitement among skiers and boarders about the coming winter.

"Everywhere we go, Warren Miller Entertainment finds people who have dedicated their lives to the mountains," said producer Josh Haskins. "Every location we shoot at, from the smallest local hills to the top of Alaska's Chugach [Range], speaks to skiers and snowboarders because, at the end of the day, all we need are some steep slopes and some snow to cover them."

If seeing the perennially popular movie is not enough motivation in its own right, ticket buyers will receive vouchers for free lift tickets at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort or Powder Mountain. They also will get discounts on purchases at sporting-goods stores in Salt Lake City, Park City or Ogden.

Tickets cost $20.

None of this year's movie was shot in Utah, but the state is represented in two segments.

Park City's Kaylin Richardson, a 2006 and 2010 Olympian who has been a Canyons Resort ambassador since then, took her four-time national Alpine champion skills to Norway. There she hurtled down a needle-nosed peak overlooking a crystal-blue fjord, marveling that despite fears of being drained from hiking to the top, "the funny thing about these mountains is that you just get this shot of energy."

Two Alta-based skiers, Sierra Quitiquit and Julian Carr, are featured in a segment about skiing in Montana.

Seen jumping off big rocks and gliding through deep powder along a tree line, Carr said "it seems like every morning we wake up to a fresh foot of snow, five inches. You can get as radical as you want up here."

In his bio, Carr said his off-snow hero is former Utah Jazz great John Stockton.

Other locations in this year's movie include the Swiss Alps, Japan, France and Mt. Olympus in Greece.
