Tourism coalition changes name to signal unity

The trade association for Utah's tourism industry has changed its name to reflect a more unified approach to enticing visitors to the state.

Known since its 1985 creation as the Utah Tourism Industry Coalition, the group has replaced the word coalition with association.

"The new name better represents the Utah Tourism Industry Association's cohesive voice as the statewide tourism trade association," said Nathan Rafferty, the group's president and chief executive of Ski Utah, marketing arm of the state's 14 ski resorts.

Nan Groves Anderson from Torrey will remain executive director. Joining Rafferty on the board are vice president Neil Wilkinson, Temple Square Hospitality; secretary-treasurer Brian Merrill, Western River Expeditions/Utah Guides & Outfitters; and past president Marian DeLay, Moab Area Travel Council.

Its executive committee includes Scott Beck, Visit Salt Lake; Bill Malone, Park City Chamber Bureau; Joel Racker, Utah Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Rob Slettom, Identity Properties.
