Utah's Daybreak lands new stores, including deli, boutique
South Jordan • Three new commercial outlets plan to open locations in Daybreak's SoDa Row shopping district.
Gourmet food seller Granato's Deli, women's apparel retailer Nest Boutique and Keller Williams Realty Group, a national real estate franchise, all said they will set up shop this spring in the retail hub of what is Utah's largest planned urban development.
Daybreak is a 4,126-acre community on the west side of South Jordan, designed and built according to cutting-edge standards for sustainable land use, green space preservation, walkability, energy efficiency and integration with mass transit. It was created 10 years ago by Kennecott Land Company, the land development arm of Kennecott Utah Copper, and its parent corporation, international mining giant Rio Tinto.
The new SoDa Row businesses join at least nine other retailers, eateries and commercial tenants clustered around the intersection of Kestrel Rise Road and Daybreak Parkway (approximately 4700 West and 11400 South) in Daybreak, alongside Rio Tinto's regional headquarters.
The stores also add critical mass to Daybreak's vision of a vibrant and central shopping hub in proximity to the nearly 3,600 homes built in the development since its first residents moved into Founders Park in the summer of 2004.
"SoDa Row is not your typical retail experience," Scott Kaufmann, vice president of commercial development for Rio Tinto-Kennecott, said Wednesday in a news release. "Here the visually appealing shops, restaurants and services are accessible by bike, foot or car to all those living in and around our community."
Granato's, the locally popular Italian-style deli and purveyor of authentic specialty foods, is scheduled to open its SoDa Row store in April. The site will be their fourth outlet in the Salt Lake Valley, according to Frank Granato III, grandson of Frank Granato, Sr., who founded the family-owned business in 1948.
Nest Boutique's owner Brittany Allen lives in Daybreak. That new outlet, specializing in women's clothing, accessories and home decor, will greet customers in early May.
Keller Williams Realty is scheduled to launch its new locale in March, with a focus on offering services and expertise to those shopping for homes in Daybreak, according to a company spokeswoman, Klair Gunn. She cited Daybreak's robust housing market and wide selection of available home types as factors in choosing the SoDa Row location.
About one of every six new homes sold across the Salt Lake Valley is located in Daybreak these days.
