The Sun Products Corporation plans to begin outsourcing operations of its distribution centers in Salt Lake City, Bowling Green, Ky., and Portland, Tenn., this March, affecting about 78 jobs in Utah.

Exel, a third-party management company that will take over operations of the distribution center, will offer positions to the majority of employees affected in the change. Employees can also apply for manufacturing positions at Sun Products' Salt Lake City manufacturing plant.

Employees who don't secure a new position with either company will receive a transition assistance package that consists of severance pay, health benefit continuation and outplacement support in seeking new jobs.

The company, which markets laundry and household care products such as All, Wisk and Snuggle, employs more than 800 at its manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City and in offices focused on sales, marketing, accounting and customer service. Its headquarters is located in Wilton, Conn.
