Sandy • More than $35 million in glistening new watercraft ranging from a $1 million yacht to a $500 inflatable are on display at the South Towne Expo Center, where the annual Utah Boat Show and Watersports Exposition continues through Sunday.

The show encompasses 250,000 square feet — much more than a year ago — and features a 150,000-gallon wakeboard park.

But for boaters and dealers alike, a big question hovers: Will there be enough water in reservoirs this summer for boaters to enjoy their crafts?

Jay Ortiz, of West Jordan, worries about the low water level at Lake Powell.

"There is a lot of submerged stuff that has been in the water for the past 50 years that is starting to surface," he said.

Stan Kener, of Sandy, keeps one of his two boats at a slip at Strawberry Reservoir, which he said was 75 percent full last year.

"I hope they get that this year," he said.

"I am wondering if I can launch at Lake Powell or Jordanelle," added Steve Postma, of Sandy. "And I like to drink water, too."

Despite water concerns, most dealers are optimistic about the coming boating season, said Jon Greenband, whose family has organized this show since 1965.

The show is bigger and better than ever, he said. Special exhibitions include professional wakeboard demonstrations, outdoor gourmet cooking featuring chef Bryan Woolley, dog-training demonstrations and the Fly Tie theater, where fishing experts give mini-clinics.

There are more than 300 boats on display, including ski boats, wakeboard boats, cruisers, family pleasure boats, yachts, houseboats, fishing boats, pontoons, speedboats, drift boats and personal watercraft.

There's plenty to see, including lots of things few boaters even knew they needed, such as:

Wondergel Advanced Seat Cushion • Designed, perhaps, for a captain's chair on a boat, these gel products make sitting for long periods more comfortable.

Happi Hoodz • This $60 item is a sort of uber-long sweatshirt with a hood. It hangs to the knees and is designed to replace traditional sweats to keep boaters warm when they get out of the water.

Wrap-It-Cool • Sometimes, when you strain something water skiing or boating too hard, you might need to ice a body part in a place where ice is scarce, if it is available at all. This first-aid wrap can provide as much relief in 90 minutes as an ice wrap can in 24 hours and doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Zoll AED Defibrillator • This portable heart defibrillator is offered to boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts who want to be prepared in case someone has a heart attack.

Pavati Wakeboard Boat • This all-aluminum boat is 20 percent lighter than other wakeboard boats, which means better gas mileage — and it has no rivets. It's pretty fast, too, because it is powered by a Corvette engine.
