Aereo, the controversial Internet-based television service that's live in Utah and also the subject of lawsuits from television networks, has secured a third round of financing totalling $34 million.

Several investors, including media icon Gordon Crawford and Highland Capital Partners contributed to the additional funding, Aereo announced Tuesday.

Aereo takes local television broadcasts and delivers them to mobile devices and desktop computers through the Internet. The company is defending a lawsuit from Utah television stations KTVX Channel 4, KUTV Channel 2 and KSTU Channel 13 on claims of copyright violation.
