A new dinosaur-themed snowboard learning park will open Friday at Snowbasin resort near Ogden.
The Natural History Museum of Utah will attend the opening event from 9 a.m. to noon in front of the Snowsports Learning Center at the Grizzly Center, where the new park is located. Docents from the museum will offer young boarders facts and let them touch and see dinosaur bones.
The Burton Dinosaur Riglet Park is designed specifically for children as young as 3 to learn how to snowboard. It is located adjacent to Snowbasin Resort's Snowsports Learning Center.
"The dinosaur-themed Burton Riglet Park completely embodies the idea of creating an environment focused on fun and play to teach the youngest of kids to snowboard," said Jeff Boliba, Burton's vice president of Global Resorts.
The park offers features celebrating Utah's vast dinosaur history. Kids can learn balance, weight transfer, edging and freestyle basics by maneuvering over, under and around sculpted terrain of lava and mountains with Dino the Dinosaur and Terry the Triceratops.
"We were very excited when Burton approached us to build a themed Riglet Park," said Jason Dyer, public relations and marketing manager for Snowbasin. "We looked at several other Burton Riglet Parks in and outside of the U.S. and really wanted to create a unique atmosphere that reflects Utah's roots. With children's love for dinosaurs and Utah's extensive history, we thought the theme was a natural fit. I can't wait for my daughters on opening day to have the chance to learn how to snowboard while getting to know more about the history of dinosaurs in Utah."
