The next time you're hunting for a job, start with Utah companies SirsiDynix, Fusion-io and Backcountry.com. They were named some of the best medium-size companies to work for in the U.S., according to a new survey by employment website, Glassdoor.com.
Lehi-based SirsiDynix, which develops software solutions for libraries, was ranked the highest at seventh. Cottonwood Heights-based Fusion-io, which manufactures high-speed flash memory, was ranked 30th. And Backcountry.com of Park City, an online retailer for outdoor clothing and gear, was ranked 50th.
Glassdoor's sixth annual "Employees' Choice Awards" ranks the top 50 large- and medium-size companies in the country based on votes from employees themselves. The medium-size category included companies between 250 and 999 employees while the large companies include those over 1,000. No Utah companies made the list in the large-size category.
According to one anonymous employee review, SirsiDynix "cares about us, the employees! Great place to grow!" Another said it is "a great place to work where your talents are recognized and rewarded."
At Backcountry.com, according to one employee review, "the atmosphere is very laid back and chill, and you couldn't find a better set of co-workers!" Finally, a sales representative at Fusion-io called it a "great company, leading edge solutions with the ability to deliver."
"The professionals working at Fusion-io are our greatest asset, and we are proud that they have shared their satisfaction with the career opportunities and our culture at Fusion-io," David Windley, Fusion-io chief human resources officer, said in a statement. "At Fusion-io, we strive to create a work environment where top talent thrives. We are pleased that our strong culture is being recognized."
Of large-size companies, Boston-based management consulting firm, Bain & Company, was ranked the best place to work for, followed by Twitter in San Francisco. In the medium-size category, financial services company Motley Fool, of Alexandria, Va., was ranked the best to work for, followed by software development company, SmartBear Software, which is headquartered in Beverly, Mass.
