One of the lead attorneys who successfully challenged Myriad Genetics' patents on genes linked to breast and ovarian cancer will speak Thursday in Salt Lake City.

Attorney Sandra Park of the American Civil Liberties Union will speak at 5:30 p.m. at the S.J. Quinney School of Law at the University of Utah.

Park's talk will be held in the Moot Court Room at the school at 332 S. 1400 East. The event is free and open to the public.

Park was part of the legal team that filed a lawsuit that went before the Supreme Court. The court ruled that parts of the patents were invalid because genes are products of nature and not eligible for patents.
