The Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday that the assistant director of the Salt Lake Regional Office, Karen L. Martinez, had been appointed director.

Martinez replaces Ken Israel, who retired Thursday.

She joined the SEC staff in 2002 as trial counsel in the Salt Lake office and became assistant director in 2010.

Martinez was in private practice before joining the SEC. She received her law degree from the University of Utah.
