Jerry Stritzke has been named president and chief executive of Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), the outdoor gear and apparel retailer announced Friday.

He replaces Sally Jewell, who left the company in April when she was confirmed as secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Stritzke most recently had been president and chief operating officer of accessories retailer Coach Inc., according to a news release. He had been at Coach since 2008. Prior to that, Stritzke, an attorney, worked for eight years at retailer Limited Brands Inc.

REI operates stores in Salt Lake City and Sandy.
