Google has designated Park City as an "e-City" — a salute to its use of the Internet to drum up business.

Park City Mayor Dana Williams accepted the e-city award Friday at Kimball Art Center.

Google’s small-business engagement director, Scott Levitan, says the company is designating digital capitals around the country in cities where online commerce is most active.

Friday’s event was supposed to bring out Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who instead was bagging sand for resident at an Alpine neighborhood that got a mudslide late Thursday. He was quoted in a news release saying Park City businesses are harnessing technology for economic growth.

The mountain town is home to world-renowned ski resorts that hosted many events of the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Google says it worked with independent research firm IPSOS to analyze the online strength of local small businesses in cities in all 50 states.

It ranks Park City among leading cities in the digital economy.
