Trib Talk: Legal scholars on Wednesday’s same-sex marriage rulings

First Published Jun 27 2013 02:00PM      Last Updated Oct 31 2013 12:55 pm

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday invalidated a provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act that has prevented married gay couples from receiving a range of tax, health and retirement benefits that are generally available to married people.

The justices also cleared the way for same-sex marriage in California by holding that defenders of California’s gay marriage ban did not have the right to appeal lower court rulings striking down the ban.

Join Trib Talk’s Jennifer Napier-Pearce at 11:30 a.m. Thursday as she moderates a discussion about the court’s decisions featuring legal scholars Clifford Rosky of the University of Utah and Lynn Wardle of Brigham Young University.
