EU sets Chinese
solar panel levy
The European Union is imposing anti-dumping levies on imports of Chinese solar panels. China, the world's largest producer, is accused of selling them below-cost to corner the market. According to EU calculations, a fair sale price for Chinese solar panels should be 88 percent higher than the current price. China has rejected EU's price-dumping allegations.
IBM agrees to
buy SoftLayer
IBM is expanding its online software business with the purchase of cloud computing company SoftLayer Technologies. Privately held SoftLayer has 13 data centers in the U.S., Asia and Europe. IBM anticipates hitting $7 billion annually in cloud revenue by the end of 2015. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the third quarter. Terms were not disclosed.
Salesforce.com to
buy ExactTarget
Salesforce.com is purchasing marketing software company ExactTarget for $2.34 billion, or $33.75 per share. The companies put the deal's value at around $2.5 billion. Salesforce.com and ExactTarget use cloud technology, allowing companies to manage digital marketing online. More than 6,000 companies use ExactTarget, including Gap, Nike and Coca-Cola.
U.S. home prices
jumped in April
U.S. home prices soared 12.1 percent in April from a year earlier, the biggest gain since February 2006. Real estate data provider CoreLogic said prices rose in April from the previous April in 48 states. Price also rose 3.2 percent in April from March, much better than the previous month-to-month gain of 1.9 percent.
Feds may expand
GM air bag recall
U.S. safety regulators are checking to see if up to 400,000 General Motors cars should be added to two recalls of just under 7,000 cars for defective air bags. The probe covers Chevrolet Cruze and Sonic small cars, the Chevrolet Camaro muscle car and the Buick Verano small car from the 2012 model year.
United vows
better service
Jeff Smisek, the CEO of United Airlines' parent company, vowed better service this summer compared with the problem-plagued season last year. Passengers suffered through rampant delays and cancellations last summer after United and Continental moved to a common passenger reservation system that was plagued with glitches.
Veterans home
dedication set
The Department of Veterans Affairs will dedicate its new Central Utah Veterans Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday at 1551 Main Street in Payson. Gov. Gary Herbert is slated to speak during the event. Following the dedication, community members may tour the new facility, meet staff members and discover volunteer and employment opportunities.
