Salt Lake City International moves up in world Top 100 rankings

Salt Lake City International Airport is ranked among the world's top 100 airports based on consumer votes in a survey conducted by Skytrax Research of London, an independent air transportation rating agency that annually presents the World Airport Awards.

The airport came in at No. 94, up five spots from its ranking last year, just ahead of Dublin, Ireland's, facility and just behind Newark Liberty International.

This year's results were based on responses Skytrax received from 12.1 million travelers at 395 airports worldwide.

Skytrax's survey asked them to evaluate airports on 39 separate factors— from check-in, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.

"It is quite an honor to be recognized," said Maureen Riley, executive director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports. "And just as importantly, it shows that we are moving in the right direction" in improving from 99th.

Riley suggested that a recent renovation of the airport's restaurant and concession venues, which she said has generated numerous positive comments from the traveling public, may have played a role in Salt Lake City International's move upward.

Singapore Changi Airport topped the list as the World's Best Airport.

Along with Salt Lake, 14 other U.S. airports made the top 100. They are Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (30), Denver International (36), San Francisco International (40), Dallas/Fort Worth International (54), Seattle-Tacoma International (62), New York JFK International (63), Minneapolis-St. Paul International (71), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (79), Houston George Bush Intercontinental (80), Chicago O'Hare International (84), Raleigh-Durham International (86), Charlotte/Douglas International (87), Boston Logan International (88) and Pittsburgh International (97). —
