Utah-based Smith's donates $10 million to nonprofits
The Utah-based Smith's Food & Drug Stores has released its 2012 Report to the Community highlighting donations of $10 million worth of cash and products to 2,200 nonprofits in seven western states.
The total includes $4.2 million contributed to 983 schools and nonprofit charities in Utah.
The company's charitable giving program, known as "Neighbor to Neighbor," provided an average donation of nearly $75,000 per store location in Smith's areas of operations. The support also includes contributions from the Kroger Foundation (Smith's parent company), suppliers, associates and customers through in-store fund-raising promotions.
Smith's assistance is primarily focused on fighting hunger, supporting K-12 education, children's hospitals, promoting women's health (primarily breast cancer) and the development of minorities and women.
"We express our heartfelt gratitude to Smith's for their support of Utah Food Bank's mission of 'Fighting Hunger Statewide,' " said Karen Sendelback, CEO of Utah Food Bank. "Smith's stands alongside us to help feed our fellow Utahns who struggle daily to put food on the table."
Smith's is a division of the Kroger Co., one of the nation's largest retail grocers. From its headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, Smith's manages 131 stores and 75 fuel centers in Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, northern Arizona and southern Idaho.
