Edward F. "Ted" Smith, the former president and CEO of Salt Lake City-based ARCOM, was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Institute of Architects Utah at the chapter’s annual Design Awards for Excellence in Architecture. An emeritus member of the AIA and a professor emeritus of architecture of the University of Utah, Smith was nominated for the award because of his many years of hard work and contributions through teaching, practice, and service to the community.
Westminster College has named Sheila Rappazzo Yorkin as its executive director of integrated marketing Communications. Yorkin will lead the college’s Office of Communication beginning March 2013. Yorkin previously served for four years as director of marketing and communications at the Economic Development Corporation of Utah.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah has announced that Bruce Bryan, Utah regional president of Chartway Federal Credit Union, has been appointed to the charity’s board of directors. Make-A-Wish Utah serves the entire state, granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Bryan served as president and CEO of HeritageWest Credit Union until it merged with Chartway in January 2010.
The Utah law firm of Durham Jones & Pinegar has announced the election of three new members to its board of directors — Steven J. McCardell, Brick G. Power and David P. "Dade" Rose. McCardell’s practice focuses on business workouts, Chapter 11 reorganization and lender liability defense. He joined the firm in 2006 after practicing with a national firm for 22 years. Power joined the Firm in 2010. He represents clients in the areas of patent prosecution, the delivery of legal opinions regarding intellectual property rights and the crafting of agreements to transfer intellectual property rights. Rose has served twice as the chair of the firm’s real estate section. His practice focuses on real estate, land use and sophisticated financing transactions.
The engineering firm Psomas has announced the appointment of Travis Perry as an associate. He works as a professional engineer on the firm’s Salt Lake City site development team. With 13 years of experience in the civil engineering industry, Perry’s areas of expertise include site design, watershed management, storm drain design, land development, project management and development reviews.

Guild Mortgage Company announced today the opening of a new branch in Sandy and has named mortgage industry veteran Pam Metcalf as Utah district manager to lead further growth in the state. Metcalf has more than 25 years of experience in business and finance and joins Guild Mortgage from Cyprus Credit Union where she was Utah sales manager. She will be based in the new Sandy office.
The new owners of Brian Head ski area above Cedar City have hired former professional skier Josh Madsen as its sales and marketing manager. The Utah native was a sponsored telemark skier who appeared in a dozen films, including Warren Miller’s "Higher Ground," produced five telemark movies of his own and was editor-in-chief of Telemark Skier Magazine.
Sam Wolfe has been promoted to chief chef at Alta Lodge after 21 years as the sous chef there. He has been transitioning into the role since September, when Paul Raddon retired.
