Limited and unreliable data on air pollution from oil and natural gas production is hindering the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to police the oil drilling boom, the agency’s own internal watchdog says. The EPA, in response, has agreed to develop a strategy for improving its pollution estimates.

AT&T has invested nearly $170 million in its wireless network in Utah since 2010, including setting up new cell sites, adding capacity for simultaneous users, expanding its 4G LTE data network, and boosting wireless coverage in buildings and at venues such as convention halls and sports arenas, the company said.

Yakima is recalling about 7,000 bicycle racks used on vehicles with rear-door spare tires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website said that mounting bolts can break and the bikes can fall from the vehicles and cause a hazard. The recall affects SpareTime two-bike racks made from Nov. 1, 2011 through Oct. 30, 2012.

Federal prosecutors are investigating Johnson & Johnson’s practices in marketing a line of hip replacements recalled in 2010 because many had to be replaced within a few years, part of a string of more than 30 product recalls by the health-care giant in the last 3 1/2 years. The probe also comes after a separate settlement over alleged kickbacks.
Free tax help
for Utah veterans
Active military and veterans can get free tax preparation at any Liberty Tax Service office now through Feb. 23. The "Military Appreciation Week" offer is open to first-time customers and will include a free roadside party at 1844 E. Fort Union Blvd. and contributions $20 to the nonprofit Afflicted War Heroes for each paid tax return.
