Utah Hay & Forage Symposium is scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Lexington Hotel in St. George (formerly the Holiday Inn).

The two-day event begins Thursday with registration at noon and sessions starting at 1 p.m. The symposium will wrap at noon on Friday.

Topics include pests (insect, disease, and weed) management, fertility, irrigation, harvest management, forage quality and testing, fertilizer costs and application rates, current and emerging alfalfa variety traits, economic forecasting and market strategies.

In addition, a pre-conference workshop is scheduled from, 8 a.m. to noon on Jan. 31, covering subjects such as fertility, disease, soil-sampling, stem nematodes, pesticides, and weed identification and control.

The cost for the pre-conference workshop is $25 and is limited to the first 75 registrants.

Symposium registration, including a pool-side breakfast on Friday morning, is $65. There is also a student rate of $30.

Utah Farm Bureau and Utah State University Extension are co-sponsoring the event.
