gets $100,000 gift

Sealants for Smiles, a Utah-based non-profit organization, has received a $100,000 donation from Intermountain Healthcare. The contribution will allow Sealants for Smiles to expand its program of offering school-based dental sealants to second and sixth-grade children, as well as other services.

The Snowpine Lodge and Wasatch Powerbird Guides are teaming up to offer heli-ski services in the mountains around Alta. "We want to help guests book a seamless, all inclusive heli-ski adventure with all the luxury and glamor of more distant locations," said Robin Cohen, director of sales and marketing at Snowpine. Wasatch has been operating for 40 years running heli-ski trips to the Wasatch Mountains.

JPMorgan CEO

gets pay docked

Jamie Dimon is getting a pay cut. JPMorgan Chase will dock the pay of its CEO by more than half, to $11.5 million from $23 million. It's the latest fallout from an embarrassing trading loss last year, one that eventually ballooned to $6 billion. The loss forced Dimon to appear before Congress to apologize. It also put the bank in the cross hairs of regulators and lawmakers.

U.S. homebuilder

sentiment steady

Confidence among U.S. homebuilders held steady in January at the highest level in nearly seven years, but builders are feeling slightly less optimistic about prospects for sales over the next six months. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo sentiment index held at 47, the same as in December. Readings below 50, though, suggest negative sentiment about the housing market.

AMR posts

Q4 profit

American Airlines parent AMR Corp. reported fourth-quarter net income of $262 million, bouncing back from a loss of $1.1 billion a year ago. The results were helped by a 13 percent reduction in labor costs. AMR ended 2012 with 4,000 fewer employees than it had at the start of the year. Its results, though, were helped by one-time gains. Without them, the airline would have lost $88 million.

U.S. factory

output rises

U.S. factory production rose in December for the second straight month, buoyed by more output of autos, electronics and business equipment. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday factory output increased 0.8 percent last month compared with November. That followed a 1.3 percent rise in November.
