Dillard's will close its Logan store in March or April and 50 employees will be laid off.

The department store, at 1350 N. Main Street, was formally a ZCMI outlet until the chain purchased the site in 2001.

Employees who want to relocate to other stores will be given consideration, said Dillard's spokeswoman Julie Bull.

The Arkansas-based chain, which has five other Utah stores, in Murray, Sandy, Ogden, Provo and St. George, has no plans to close any of those.

Bull said the Logan store is one of four locations nationwide to be shuttered this quarter, "as part of a strategic closure."

Dillard's, founded by William T. Dillard in 1938, operates 304 stores in 29 states. —
