MJ Miller has been named director of development at Shriners Hospitals for Children—Salt Lake City. She joins the staff of the nonprofit pediatric specialty facility after serving eight years as director of external relations for the University of Nevada Las Vegas Libraries. She worked previously for Johns Hopkins University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ricky Borja has been named the new assistant general manager at Kimpton's Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City. He has more than 15 years experience in the hospitality industry and most recently served as the hotel manager and director of human resources at Park City's Canyons Resort.

Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects, a Utah architectural firm with offices in Salt Lake City and St. George, has announced that Sergey Akhpatelov, Richard Judkins, Eric Madsen, Travis Naisbitt, Terance White, Gary Lemon and Tyler Young have been promoted to senior associates. In addition, Philip Wentworth, Bret Bullough, Erin Youngberg and Ron Lemon have been named associates. The firm specializes in the design of educational, governmental, religious and commercial buildings, and has been in the continuous practice of architecture in the Intermountain West since 1952.

Backcountry.com, a West Valley City-based online outdoor retailer that specializes in high-end outdoor recreation gear for skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and other activities, has promoted Brendan Quirk to executive vice president of customer experience.

Nature's Sunshine Products Inc., a Utah-based multilevel marketing company that sells nutritional and personal care products, has announced that Gregory L. Probert has been appointed executive chairman of its board of directors. He previously served as executive vice chairman. Kristine F. Hughes becomes the vice chairman. She is a co-founder of the company and previously served as its chairman.

The Utah House of Representatives Democratic Caucus has named Ashley Sumner, former communications director of the Ben McAdams for Salt Lake County Mayor Campaign, as its communications coordinator for the 2013 legislative session.

The Bank of American Fork has hired Art McKinlay as its public relations manager. He has spent more than 15 years in the public relations and marketing fields for a variety of organizations, including HONFED Bank in Hawaii. More recently, McKinlay worked as a major gifts fundraiser for Brigham Young University.

VitalSmarts, a Utah-based company that offers corporate and organizational performance training, announced that Stephen Wunderli has joined the company as a senior intellectual property partner. He will work with VitalSmarts authors to create products that increase individuals' and organizations' capacities to succeed. Andrew Maxfield has been named the first director of the Influencer Institutute, the company's newly organized private operating foundation dedicated to enabling the social sector to influence behavior more effectively.

Solera Networks, a data security and analytics company, has appointed Ken Saunders as chief financial officer. He previously served as vice president of finance.

Maria Newton, an associate professor of exercise and sport science at the University of Utah, has been named a fellow of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, an international professional organization that promotes the field of sport and exercise psychology.
