A California-based burger chain is opening Habit Burger Grill in Salt Lake City on Jan. 10, its first Utah location.

The restaurant, located in old Granite Furniture building, also will sponsor activities on Jan. 8-9 to benefit local charities, which are open to the public.

The events, and hours of hours of operation on these days include:

Jan. 8 • Noon to 2 p.m., YMCA of Northern Utah

Jan. 8 • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Boys & Girls Clubs

Jan. 9 • Noon to 2 p.m., YWCA of Salt Lake City

"When we open a new location, we like to be a good neighbor and always reach out to local charities for pre-opening fund-raising opportunities," said Russ Bendel, president & CEO of Habit Restaurants, LLC.

The Habit, known for its charburgers grilled over an open flame, offers burgers starting at $2.95. Its menu also includes sandwiches made from grilled, marinated chicken and Albacore tuna. Diners also may choose from freshly prepared specialty salads tossed to order, onion rings, sweet potato fries and a variety of hand-blended shakes and malts made from real ice cream.

The chain, with 69 locations in California and Arizona, plans to open two additional Utah locations this year.

The Habit is a sister company to CafĂ© Rio, which are owned by KarpReilly, LLC, a private equity firm located in Greenwich, Conn. —
