The Kroger Co. said Tuesday it is recalling select containers of Kroger Deluxe French Vanilla Ice Cream sold at Smith's Food & Drug stores in Utah.

The ice cream, which may contain pecans not listed on the label, is also being recalled from Dillons, King Soopers/City Market and Fry's Food stores in 10 other states in which Kroger operates, the Cincinnati-based company said in a news release.

Customers should return the product to stores for a full refund or replacement, Kroger said.

People who are allergic to pecans could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the ice cream, the release said. There is no safety issue with the product for consumers not allergic to pecans.

The ice cream is sold in 48-ounce cartons with a sell-by date of June 12, 2013.

The UPC code is 11110 50718.
