Five Utah philanthropists and two of the state's philanthropic organizations will be honored this week at the 2012 Utah Philanthropy Day luncheon.

Each year since 1999, the Utah Nonprofits Association and the Utah Society of Fund Raisers have honored leaders in philanthropy by presenting awards honoring their efforts at the gala event.

The 2012 awardees include:

Philanthropic Leadership Award • John Netto and Rev. Catherine Putnam-Netto

Foundation Spirit of Giving Award • The McCarthey Family Foundation

Corporate Spirit of Giving Award •Questar Corp.

Outstanding Nonprofit Executive Award • William E. Hulterstrom

Outstanding Young Volunteer Award • Austin Michael Dennis

Norma Matheson Outstanding Volunteer Award • Kelly Maxfield

"Utah Philanthropy Day is proud to be in its 14th year, honoring and recognizing some of the many volunteers and philanthropists who serve our nonprofit community," Denise Winslow, Utah Philanthropy Day committee chairwoman, said in a statement. "We look forward to this day each year so that we can highlight the extraordinary impact that nonprofits have on our community and celebrate the enormous spirit of giving we have in our state."

The Utah Nonprofits Association was formed in 1990 and is dedicated to building the capacity of Utah's nonprofit organizations. The Utah Society of Fund Raisers was established in 1985 to address and support the educational needs of Salt Lake City's growing population of development professionals.
