Salt Lake Tribune website wins top journalism prize
The Salt Lake Tribune received an EPPY Award as one of the best daily newspaper websites in the country, it was announced Tuesday.
The Tribune's website at www.sltrib.com">http://www.sltrib.com, which receives about 25 million page views per month, won the award for Best Daily Newspaper Website with one million unique monthly visitors or more. It tied with the The Globe and Mail in Toronto. The EPPY's are presented annually by Editor & Publisher magazine.
"Being best isn't just about looking good or functioning correctly. We strive for a site that is accurate, timely and interesting," said Tribune Deputy Editor Tim Fitzpatrick. "We appreciate this recognition, particularly given that we competed with the top newspaper websites in the world."
Other news organizations nominated in the category were The New York Daily News, the Financial Times, the San Jose Mercury News and the Singapore Press.
Nearly 70 media professionals made up the panel of judges, including figures from The Philadelphia Daily News, The Associated Press, Reuters, National Public Radio and The Boston Globe.
The EPPY Awards, in the 17th year of honoring the best media websites across 31 categories, are also given for excellence in college and university journalism.
