Along with launching a major expansion of its Tremonton plant, West Liberty Foods is estimating it will add some 50 new jobs at the facility over the next two years.

West Liberty this week announced it is about to launch another addition at the Tremonton plant, its third since the facility opened in 2007.

The Tremonton plant currently employs 530 Utahns.

The company, whose headquarters are in West Liberty, Iowa, said it will add 34,000 square feet of manufacturing and storage space to the Utah facility. The expansion is expected to be complete in August.

"More immediately, we plan to add 16 positions beginning in January 2013 in conjunction with our new high-pressure pasteurization operations," said Dan Waters, a West Liberty vice president and general counsel.

High-pressure pasteurization destroys pathogenic microorganisms, which results in greater food safety while retaining the freshness, flavor, texture and color of the food, he said.

West Liberty Foods is a co-packer and private label manufacturer of sliced deli meats and other fully-cooked products.
