Utah’s top utility regulator plans to retire later this year.
Ted Boyer, chairman of the state’s Public Service Commission, said he plans to leave his post Dec. 1.

He was appointed to his first term as a commissioner of the PSC on June 20, 2003. Boyer was re-appointed as commission chairman on March 27, 2009. His term expires March 1, 2015.
Prior to his appointment, Boyer served on the cabinet of former Gov. Mike Leavitt as executive director of the Utah Department of Commerce, and before that as director of the Utah Real Estate Division.
"Ted has done a superb job as chairman of the Public Service Commission," Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said in a statement announcing Boyer’s pending retirement. "Under his leadership, Utah’s stable and fair energy regulatory and pricing structures have been drivers of economic development in the state and are important reasons companies choose to come to Utah."
After receiving bachelor of science and masters degrees from Brigham Young University and teaching at Murray State University, Boyer earned a law degree from the University of Utah and practiced law in Salt Lake City for more than 20 years before entering state government.
"Having the opportunity to serve the people of Utah under four extraordinary governors has been the highlight of my working career," Boyer said. "I will dearly miss the associations and friendships public service has provided."
