Ancestry.com has bought a small San Francisco startup that helps people turn their old printed photographs into digital images, the Provo company said Wednesday.
Ancestry.com did not disclose the terms of its purchase of 1000memories Inc. The acquisition will provide Ancestry.com’s members with a new way to scan and add their old photos to their family trees.

Ancestry.com also gets 1000memories’ ShoeBox app, which turns mobile phones into photo scanners and allows users to share photos online. The app has had more than 500,000 downloads, Ancestry.com said.
To coincide with the sale, 1000memories launched a version of ShoeBox for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system that allows Ancestry.com members to post photos directly to their accounts. The update is the first step in a plan to further integrate the two services.
Ancestry.com said it does not expect the acquisition to have an impact on its financial guidance. Shares rose 81 cents, or 2.73 percent, to finish trading Wednesday at $30.50 on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
