IRS webinar to offer Utahns a primer on disaster-relief charities

In the wake of recent weather-related disaster declarations, the Internal Revenue Service is rebroadcasting the webinar "Starting and Operating Charities for Disaster Relief."

The broadcast is free and will be available at 11 a.m. Thursday

The webinar will explain the basic requirements for starting a tax-exempt, disaster-relief charity and the ways new and existing organizations can properly provide disaster relief under federal tax rules.

Topics will include:

• Rules for recipients of disaster relief

• The various types of help organizations can provide

• Deductibility of contributions

• Operation and record-keeping requirements for fundraising and for working with volunteers.

Participants will use this same email address to log in to the webinar on Thursday. About one week after the webinar, they will be sent an email that includes a certificate of completion.
