Utah small-business owners have a free new online tool to help them compete and grow their establishments.

Offered by the Small Business Administration, "SizeUp" is designed to help owners find new customers and compare their performances against other businesses in their industry using data collected from hundreds of private and public sources.

"Market research and analysis is critical for the success of any small-business owner or entrepreneur," SBA Administrator Karen Mills said in a statement. "Tools like SizeUp deliver data right to the fingertips to help [them] make smart decisions and have the greatest opportunity to start, grow, compete and succeed."

She added that in today's challenging economic environment, where small businesses create nearly all net new jobs in the U.S., help is more important than ever.
