The Utah Petroleum Association, a trade organization of the oil and gas industry, raised $30,000 for local charities by bringing together members of the energy industry during its second annual Charity Golf Classic at Mountain Dell Golf Course.

Goal Zero, a developer of portable solar power systems, was named to Outside magazine's annual Best Places to Work list. The Utah company was selected for enabling employees to pursue an active work-life balance, while fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration.

Best Buy and founder Richard Schulze reached a deal that allows Schulze access to confidential financial statements and other information he needs to put together a bid to buy the nation's largest consumer electronics chain.

Dollar Thrifty

Hertz is one-step closer to its long-awaited prize. More than two years after an initial bid, it agreed Sunday to buy Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group for $2.3 billion, giving it more ways to attract travelers and expand. Hertz is offering $87.50 for each Dollar Thrifty share.

Tiffany: Wealthy

are cutting back

Tiffany & Co. lowered its outlook for the year as the wealthy cut back on buying baubles in an uncertain economy. The upscale retailer earned $91.8 million, or 72 cents per share, for the period ended July 31, up 2 percent from $90 million, or 69 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 2 percent, to $886.6 million. Analysts had expected higher earnings and revenue.
